Garg, Merola Interdisciplinary Approaches to Overlap Disorders in Dermatology & Rheumatology

This new text provides the clinician with a practical framework with which to evaluate patients suspected of having rheumatic skin disorders. The hallmark cutaneous features indicative of rheumatic skin diseases are emphasized, along with the evaluation of involved organ systems. Patients presenting with disorders in which skin disease and systemic involvement may be coupled have an opportunity for timely detection and intervention. Identification of specific cutaneous morphologic features, along with systemic assessment, is an integral part of the workup and co-management of these patients. The goal of facilitating screening, appropriate referral, and co-management for patients is addressed in the book through discussion of the exam, serologic workup, and image and organ function-based evaluations. Many dermatologists have not received specific training in the basic cutaneous, musculoskeletal, and other systemic evaluation of patients with rheumatic skin diseases. Therefore, a clinically relevant gap between current and best practices exists, and Rheumatic Skin Diseases in Clinical Medicine ?aims to close this gap for practicing dermatologists and rheumatologists, as well as resident physicians and fellows in these fields.
